Joelle has years of experience teaching at National Junior College, where she ran its creative writing club and was also the teacher-in-charge of public speaking competitions.

As an English tutor, Joelle encourages students to take part in such national and international competitions to build up their portfolios for future college applications; she also coaches them on how to assemble such portfolios and personal statements for scholarship and college applications.

Interview skills for DSA, college admissions, scholarships

Having been a teacher-in-charge of NJC’s DSA process, where she interviewed prospective applicants, Joelle coaches students on interview skills.

Public Speaking, Drama and Debate championships

Joelle has coached students in national speech competitions & debate championships; her students have won awards at prestigious national competitions like the PESA (Plain English Speaking Awards) by YMCA, the Orator’s Cup by ACJC, poetry recitations by the National Schools Literature Festival, and Poetry Festival Singapore.

Creative Writing competitions:

Joelle’s work has been awarded the Brian Elliot Literary Prize and has been performed in the UK and Australia; she has coached numerous students to win national and international story-writing competitions, such as the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.

Essay writing for college admissions, scholarship applications

Leveraging her own experience of successfully applying to Oxford University and to government scholarships, she coaches students on essay writing. Her students have gained admission to prestigious national and international universities.

INTERNATIONAL WRITING COMPETITIONS

Organised in England for all commonwealth countries, the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is the largest and oldest essay writing competition in the world; in 2025, it received over 54,000 entries from around the world.
